TAMPA, FL -
A couple of the Lightning players spent their off day Wednesday fishing in St. Petersburg.
Not all them left with fish.
Pierre-Cedric Labrie accidentally hooked a pelican. "I cast one, and I guess the pelican just went for it and bit on my hook," Labrie said Thursday. "It was epic." Teammate Keith Aulie snapped a photo of Labrie holding the pelican on posted it on twitter.
Labrie said the boat captain removed the hook and the pelican survived. "I love animals. I'm not going to hurt him," he added.
Labrie didn't catch any fish on the trip, but he did have one more incident with a bird. "I threw another cast and a seagull got caught in the line by the wing, and I was like, ‘What?' I'm here for the fish. That was pretty funny," he said.
