TAMPA, FL -
The Tampa Bay Lightning has listed defenseman Brendan Mikkelson as day-to-day with an upper body injury. The ailment sounds more mundane than the cause of it.
During practice Thursday, Mikkelson tripped and launched head first into the boards. He laid unconscious for about five minutes before he left the ice on his own power and was taken to the hospital.
"There was no hit there. He just, I don't know, hit the crack in the ice," said coach Guy Boucher. "[It was] not a good sight." Boucher added Mikkelson was "lucid" when he left practice.
Mikkelson has only played in one of the Lightning's six games this season.
