Guns exchanged during a buy-back program recently in Los AngelesIf you have a gun on your hands, and you'd rather have a pocket full of cash, Hillsborough deputies are more than happy to arrange a trade.
This Saturday, February 2, you can take part in "Operation Gun Swap", and trade in a firearm for $75, and a "fan pack" that includes tickets to Lightning and Rays games. The event runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Deputies ask that you place your weapon in the trunk of your car, or secure it in a box or a bag. When you arrive at a drop-off location, a deputy will remove the gun from your car. The firearm should not be loaded.
Drop-off locations are:
Sheriff's Operations Center, 2008 E. 8th Avenue
13501 N. Nebraska Avenue (site of closed Sunoco gas station)
IGA Grocery Store, 14720 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Sheriff's Town 'N Country Substation, 7519 W. Waters Avenue
Sheriff's Progress Village Substation, 7935 Flower Avenue
All firearms received will be destroyed. You can remain anonymous, and no questions will be asked. BB guns, pellet guns, or paintball guns are not eligible for the cash or tickets, but they will be accepted for destruction.
