US 41 back open after tanker fire

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL -

US 41 is back open after being shut-down for a few hours.  A tanker fire between Port Sutton Road and Madison Avenue kept it closed for traffic.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue dispatched Hazmat and heavy rescue units to the scene. The driver of the tanker told firefighters that the tank was empty. It is used to transport sulfur and fertilizer.

The Fire Rescue crews investigated the incident and determined that the insulation between the outer and the inner shells of the tanker caught on fire from a possible electrical short-circuit.

The crews returned the tanker to the owner.
