TAMPA, FL -
Tampa firefighters say a child playing with a lighter caused a fire that burned an apartment Tuesday night.
Firefighters responded to 1582 Nuccio Parkway to find flames and smoke pouring from the first floor of a two-story apartment complex. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and kept it from spreading to other units. Investigators estimate the damage at $10,000.
A woman and three children were in the apartment when the fire started. Smoke detectors warned them of the fire, and they all exited safely. Investigators later concluded that one of the children was playing with a lighter on a bed.
