ST. PETERSBURG, FL -
St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster hasn't given up, in his effort to keep the Sweetbay grocery store in Midtown from closing.
Mayor Foster tells News Channel 8's Peter Bernard that he plans to leave St. Petersburg at 3 p.m. Tuesday, headed to Gainesville. Once there, he will meet with Sweetbay officials. He hopes to urge the company to keep the store open.
Three weeks ago, Sweetbay's parent company announced it planned to close 33 stores in Florida, including the one on 18th Avenue South, in the Midtown community of St. Petersburg.
A total of 73 employees will lose their jobs as a result of the closing of the Midtown store.
