A Hernando County Deputy's mangled cruiser shows the scars of a violent confrontation with a man, Friday night.
Deputies say Jason Gatto was likely high on drugs, during an argument with his family. Deputies responded to the home at 8038 Weeping Willow Street, but by the time they arrived, Gatto was gone.
Gatto was spotted by Deputy Cody Silagyi at Weeping Willow Street and Taylor Street. Investigators say, once he was spotted, Gatto used his vehicle to ram Deputy Silagyi's patrol car. Deputies say Gatto was traveling at about 60 miles per hour when he hit the cruiser.
After the crash, investigators say Gatto got out of his car, and was threatening Deputy Silagyi. Silagyi deployed his taser, and detained Gatto, who now faces charges of Aggravated Battery with the Intent to Cause Bodily Harm and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Deputy Silagyi was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered in the crash. He is expected to make a full recovery.
