SARASOTA COUNTY, FL -
On Tuesday morning, Nik Wallenda will walk a wire 180 feet about the ground in his hometown of Sarasota. On Monday, he scouted out the location of his daredevil feat.
Wallenda won't be wearing a safety harness during Tuesday's walk. The Sarasota City Commission gave its approval, after Wallenda met with them and told them he felt a tether was unnecessary.
The walk starts at 10:30 a.m. and goes from a crane near the landmark "Unconditional Surrender" statue, to the Marina Tower Condominium on U.S. 41. Part of U.S. 41 will be shut down during the walk.
Nik Wallenda is in town for a three week stay with Circus Sarasota and wanted to give back to his hometown community. He says, "I love this city and anything I can do to help promote it I'm willing to."
The walk is free and open to the public. You can also watch it online: WFLA.com will provide live streaming video of the event.
