Saint Petersburg Police say Timothy Michael Deacon, 21, was under the influence of alcohol when he was driving his Ford F250 pickup and lost control of his vehicle and struck two pedestrians, Friday evening.
67-year old Gloria Mastell and 71-year old Roger Wurr were walking along the water front sidewalk in the 1900 block of Coffee Pot Boulevard around 6:30 p.m.
Investigators say Deacon was driving southbound on the road when he lost control as his truck went around a curve. Deacon drove over the curb and up onto the sidewalk, hitting Mastell and Wurr. Deacon then fled the scene, police said.
The Saint Petersburg woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The male victim was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
A short time later, investigators were able to locate Deacon and his vehicle. He was arrested and charged with DUI Manslaughter, DUI Serious Bodily Injury and Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death.
