Tampa Police detectives have made an arrest in a frightening incident at Hillsborough High School, that had some students believing they were in the middle of a mass shooting.

Akeria Bowden, a 17 year old from Temple Terrace, faces charges of inciting a riot and tampering with evidence.  Investigators say she was captured on surveillance video setting off fireworks in the school.  A teacher identified her in the video, and when questioned, police say she admitted to the crime.

Tampa Police received multiple calls of shots fired from inside the school. The calls came in at about 2:20 and police say they were on scene within a minute.

Officers, believing there was an active shooter on campus, went room by room, floor by floor, looking for the gunman.  Every room was cleared within 8 minutes, then officers discovered the real cause of the noise: fireworks.

A handful of fireworks were found in a hallway.

Parents received automated phone messages of a possible shooting on campus. When they arrived, they found the school on lockdown.

In all, 53 officers responded to the campus.
