For the second time since July, gunfire rang out at closing time at a popular Carrollwood nightclub. Two people were injured in the Sunday gunfight around 3 AM at Whiskey Park North on North Dale Mabry Highway.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Spokesperson Samara Sodos said at least 200 people were in the parking lot at closing time when the shots rang out.
"This was an absolutely chaotic scene," said Sodos. "There were people running around the parking lot, running down Dale Mabry, going back into the bar trying to seek safety."
A bullet struck Sheldon Lillie, 31, in the shoulder. Bullets also grazed the forehead and bicep of another man, Yakim Williams, 27.
"I was in the wrong place, at the wrong time," Williams told News Channel 8 by phone Sunday afternoon shortly after he was released from the hospital.
Sodos said there are no suspects and detectives aren't sure how many gunmen there were. Nearly 20 shell casings were recovered at the scene. A Mercedes Benz parked near the front of the nightclub was hit by ten rounds. Another vehicle's windshield was shattered during the shooting.
Sheriff's officials released images Sunday evening from a surveillance camera in Whiskey North's parking lot. They show a gray car and a blue car with white stripes on the hood. Detectives want to find those vehicles and speak to the people who were in them Sunday morning. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
Back in July, Pablo Bonilla, 23, was killed and another man was injured in a shooting at closing time at the same nightclub.
