An uninvited guest may be showing up at house parties and teen hangouts in Manatee County. Law enforcement agencies are targeting underage alcohol and illegal drug use. Officer Danny Bench wit the Bradenton Police Department is part of the task force responsible for enforcing the law. "They can go out and be with their friends and go places and party and have a good time but they don't need the alcohol and drugs to do it" he said.
To get the word out, color posters are being circulated at Manatee County Middle and High Schools. It has bold letters with the words "Party this weekend? We'll see you there !" Pictured on the poster are 5 law enforcement officers, representing the 5 agencies participating in the program.
While the program is targeted to teens, parents that provide alcohol to underage drinkers will be cited. "If we find a house that has an open house party, we will go there just for that reason to check and see if teens are being provided with any illegal substance" said Officer Bench.
Palmetto High Freshman, Daron Lowrey thinks the program will help solve a problem in the community. "It would keep a lot of kids from dying these days. ...they get in car crashes."
