As smartphone's continue to transform the way we interact and gather information, Clearwater police are hoping it will be a powerful tool to crime fighting.
On Wednesday, Clearwater police unveiled the ‘Tip411' app for Android users. The app allows users to send anonymous tips to police. The app also allows police to respond back to the tipster in what police describe as a two way anonymous chat.
"This mobile app alleviates time and technology barriers. Anyone can send us information - including pictures- whenever or wherever that person chooses,"
said Clearwater Police Chief Anthony Holloway. "We're hopeful that a greater accessibility from more phones will mean more information."
Police released a similar app back in 2011 for iPhones and are now building on its success with today's Android app, police said.
