Eight things that could be cheaper in 2013

Posted: Updated:

If you think prices are always going up that's not necessarily the case. Some are predicting certain items will actually be cheaper in 2013 than they were in 2012.

Dealnews.com says streaming video is one of the things that will cost you less in the new year. Competition drives down prices and Netflix now has a big competitor in the streaming video market. Redbox has launched its streaming video service. It includes four one day DVD rentals for $8 a month. That's about half the cost of the Netflix plan.

The price of Microsoft's surface tablets is also expected to drop in 2013. According to Dealnews.com, lukewarm reviews and tepid sales means Microsoft is now allowing some big box stores, like Best Buy and Walmart, to sell the surface. That increases your chances of finding a deal on one.

The price of big High Definition televisions is also on the decline. Sets that are 60 inches and larger are predicted to see the biggest price cuts.

Gamers may also score some savings in 2013. Dealnews.com says a new android-based console called "Kickstarter" is hitting the market for just $99. Cloud-based gaming is also expected to gain ground.

If you haven't yet bought your first e-book.. the fact that the justice department recently sued over alleged e-book price-fixing means some e book purchases should be getting cheaper. Amazon, for one, has confirmed it will be discounting certain kindle books.

The hard drive industry was hard hit in 2012. Deals on hard drives were hard to find and prices were high but at the end of last year hard drive bargains started popping up and that's a trend that is expected to continue.

The smart phone market is moving at such a breakneck pace that dialing up a deal on current smart phone models should not be hard. If you're willing to sign a contract, scoring a smart phone for nothing out of pocket isn't out of the question.

Shopping from your smart phone is expected to be cheaper and easier too this year. Mobile sales are up and more deals are expected as retailers try to lure in phone-savvy customers with special promotions.
