The heat goes on

Updated:
The day starts in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees, and it warms up quickly from there. "By midday we'll be in the upper 80s with heat index values near 100 degrees already," said Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Leigh Spann. Expect afternoon highs to be well above normal. It should be in the mid 90s, and with the humidity it will feel like 102-106. "Stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks if you have to be outside," said Spann.

A few storms develop this afternoon, mainly east of I-75. "The rain chance is small at 20%, but those areas that see rain will get a brief relief from the stifling temperatures," said Spann.  The rain chance is slightly higher tomorrow at 30%, but it will still be hot with highs in the mid 90s.

There is a tropical wave just east of the Caribbean Islands that has a 70% chance of developing into a tropical depression.  Storm Team 8 is keeping a close eye on it, but it's still too early to tell if the storms will form and where it will head.
