At a vacant home on 14th Avenue South in St. Petersburg, a bank foreclosure representative made a gruesome discovery. In a covered area, he found a dead pit bull hanging from a leash.
Investigators from the SPCA Tampa Bay were called. They found a black and white, 1 to 2 year old, female pit bull, emaciated and hanging by a thick leash and purple collar.
Humane Officer Jill Purl has seen this kind of thing many times, but it doesn't make it any easier. "It does hurt me. This is deplorable. The people, if they don't want the animal, they can call the SPCA Tampa Bay" said Purl.
Purl estimates the dead dog had been tied up for 2 to 3 days. The house where she was found is abandoned and has been that way for at least a year. She said there is evidence, the dog tried to free herself. "It looks like the dog has tried to chew it's way off of the leash."
The SPCA Tampa bay is offering a $500 reward for anyone with information about this animal cruelty case.
