The pilot of a small airplane was killed when his plane crashed Monday afternoon, in Palmetto.
The Manatee County Sheriff's Office was called to a cow pasture off Buckeye Road and Grass Farm Road, in northern Manatee County, after an eyewitness saw the small ultralight aircraft crash into the field around 4:30 p.m., deputies said.
The pilot of the ultralight, James Clendenon, 82, was pronounced dead on the scene. No other individuals were on board the home made aircraft.
The victim took off from Airport Manatee, deputies said. It was not immediately clear what caused the ultralight to crash.
