The southbound lanes of I-275 were closed for more than an hour Monday after a wrong-way driver crashed her car into oncoming traffic and died at the scene.
The two-car crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on I-275 in Pinellas County south of 54th Avenue South, Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers say Sandra Weems, 58, of Saint Petersburg, was driving northbound on I-275 in the southbound lanes and crashed into an oncoming Ford van driven by David C. David, 58 of Oldsmar.
Weems, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said. Three other individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment. The Florida State Highway Patrol is investigating.
