A pair of rallies will be held in Tampa today and Tuesday in honor of Trayvon Martin, including one in which Martin's family is expected to appear.
The College Democrats at USF will partner with other student organizations to hold a campus rally today at 3 p.m. at the MLK Plaza.
Martin's family is expected to appear at a rally tonight in Sanford.
The USF rally is being held on the one-month anniversary of the death of Martin, an unarmed black teenager who was killed by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman. Zimmerman told police he shot Martin in self-defense.
Meanwhile, Tampa City Council member Frank Reddick says he has arranged for Martin's family to appear at a Tuesday rally to be held at 6 p.m. at the 34th Street Church of God, 3000 N. 34th St.
"We're at this point now where I think it's an outrage throughout this community, saying 'We're tired of this. We want justice and we're not going to sit idly by no more and allow this to happen," said Reddick, who added he's a personal friend of the Martin family attorney.
Professional athletes will join tonight's rally in Sanford, which comes before a city council meeting. It's the first time the council has met since the city's police chief stepped down in what he called a temporary move.
The rallies come as churches nationwide are calling for justice in the death of Martin, including worshippers wearing hoodies similar to the one Martin wore the night he was killed.
