Tampa area charities seek help year round

Posted: Updated:

The holiday drives by charities like metropolitan ministries have become common place between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

But the need is there all year round.

Tim Marks with Metropolitan Ministries said, "people need help in all different varieties... and so what we do is try to be here each and everyday for those families that need us the most."

That includes people like Mark Yannitello was homeless.

He's among many people who look to Metropolitan Ministries for things like food.

Mark Yannitello says, "there is nothing like it, I think its great I want to use until its time for me to pack it up and let somebody else take my place."

Yannitello is now looking for work again, and has turned to Metropolitan Ministries for help in between jobs.

"This is only the third time I have ever been here I don't want to take advantage if it but when I need I need.  I came in to grab some stuff," said Mark Yannitello.

But after the holidays charities like Metropolitan Ministries still need assistance after the "Season of Giving" comes to and end.

Tim Marks with Metropolitan Ministries says, "there is a significant drop off a significant drop off in January and after the holidays, it really goes much slower, there might be some year end tax giving and we encourage people to help us with that...but there is no comparison to the help we get thru the December months."

The monetary donations help pay for year long projects like helping the unemployed use its computers to look for work..

Robert Reid whose unemployed says, "its very important for me to come over here and basically be able to access the resources it is very important for me."

Especially with its new "Miracle Place" that will open next summer.

"'we are going to double our capacity in the next seven months so we are going to need more resources to support 50 plus families maybe 200 children living with us every night.", said Tim Marks.

And that's why they say the need is great... every day of the year..
