Hillsborough homicide, stabbing may be related

Posted: Updated:

Hillsborough sheriff's deputies are investigating two stabbings, one proved to be fatal.  Both happened last night near the intersection of West Waters Avenue and Lois Street.

Investigators initially got the call around 7:30, after a 19-year old man walked into a 7-11 at 4001 West Waters Avenue.  He was covered in blood and appeared to have been stabbed.  Paramedics rushed him to a local hospital for treatment.

About an hour later, an anonymous caller reported seeing a man lying in a nearby ditch.  Authorities identified him as 45-year old Ovidio Sanchez.  Investigators say he too, had been stabbed.  He was alive when deputies arrived, they attempted c-p-r, but he died a short time later.

Investigators believe, because of the close proximity of both crime scenes, that both crimes may be related, and they're asking for anyone with any information on either stabbing to give the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office a call.
