Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies say a Valrico man opened fire on them after they responded to a domestic violence call. They eventually took 45-year-old Allen Harmeyer into custody.
The incident unfolded shortly after one this morning at a residence at 4110 Silver Lane in Valrico. 34-year old Krystal Register called the sheriff's office to report her Boyfriend, Haymeyer, had roughed her up and kicked her out of the house following an argument. Deputies responded at encountered Harmeyer at the front door. Investigators say Harmeyer made threats against the deputies and then went into the home and came back out with an AK-47 type assault rifle and opened fire. One of the deputies returned fire and Harmeyer ran back into the home. Moments later he surrendered.
Neither of the deputies was injured but their patrol cars suffered significant damage. Both were riddled with bullets. A sheriff's office spokesman estimates the damage at about 5,000 dollars.
Harmeyer is now in custody. Charges against him are pending. Paramedics treated Register at the scene for injuries she received during the initial assault.
