MIAMI (AP) - Prosecutors say they will not file domestic violence charges against George Zimmerman after his girlfriend said she did not want to pursue the case. State Attorney Phil Archer in Seminole County says Samantha Scheibe's decision not to cooperate and the lack of other corroborating evidence made a successful prosecution unlikely.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - With slightly less than a year to go before the election, Gov. Rick Scott and Democratic rival Charlie Crist are raising money at a rapid pace. Campaign records show that Crist raised nearly $3 million into both his official campaign account and for a political committee helping his campaign. Scott, however, nearly doubled Crist's totals.
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) - The police chief in Miami Gardens has resigned amid allegations that officers routinely harassed and intimidated people at a local convenience store. The Miami Herald reports that Chief Matthew Boyd submitted his resignation today.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - To protest a Nativity scene, a Florida man has put up a Festivus pole with beer cans at the state Capitol. Chaz Stevens opposes religious displays in government buildings, but if a Nativity scene is allowed, he says a Festivus pole should be too. Festivus was created in an episode of "Seinfeld."
