Pasco hit-and-run suspect arrested

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A man suspected in a hit-and-run involving a Pasco boy on a bike was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol troopers on Wednesday night.

Detectives say Christopher Try, age 20, was driving a stolen Ford Expedition on Monday afternoon when he hit Johnny Walsh Jr as he rode his bicycle.

Surveillance camera video showed the Ford Expedition fishtailing down Moog Road toward US-19. The video shows the SUV driving into a family's front yard, hitting their truck, swinging back out into the street and then hitting the boy. The 7th grader suffered road rash, bruises and has a sore hip from the accident.

On Wednesday, authorities said that  Christopher Try and Kevin Wilson were persons of interest in the case. Try was spotted by Pasco deputies in Holiday on Wednesday night. Deputies detained Try and then FHP troopers arrived and arrested him.

Try was charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash with injury. He is being held on $10,500 bond. Wilson has not been found.

On Wednesday, Florida Highway Patrol troopers found the gold Ford Expedition involved in the hit-and-run. Pasco County Mosquito Control workers stumbled on it in a wooded area off Highway 19 in New Port Richey.

News Channel 8 was the only station on scene as FHP troopers converged on the wooded area. Stuffed in the woods along a dusty, weed-covered trail, a flatbed tow truck pulled the gold Expedition out of where it was ditched. The front of the SUV had extensive damage.

On Wednesday, authorities also released recordings of 911 calls made after the hit and run. A witness who was driving a white Audi called 911 and gave chase.

A portion of that call goes like this:

Caller: "He just hit a ***** kid. I'm in hot pursuit."

Dispatcher: "Hello? "

Caller: "He's trying to run away. Stop!"

Dispatcher: "Hello?"

Caller: "Stop!"

Dispatcher: "Hello?"

Caller: "You hit a ***** kid."

The caller told dispatchers, he's heading north on Highway 19.

Caller: "I'm in hot pursuit right now".

Dispatcher: "Alright no. Don't do that"

Caller: "Naw **** that. He just hit a kid, I don't give a ****."
