Polk I-4 crash kills 1, injures 7, including children

WFLA Web Staff - POLK COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a deadly crash that closed part of Interstate 4 late Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say the crash happened at 4:00 p.m. on eastbound I-4, between U.S. 27 and the Polk/Osceola county line.

Eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed until 8:00 p.m. Eastbound traffic was diverted at State Road 557.

The crash, which involved three vehicles occurred during stop-and-go traffic. A 2015 Blue Nissan Versa, driven Henry May, 31, of Jacksonville, rammed into the back of a 2003 Silver Honda Pilot, driven Diana Daskalos Chesney, 56, of Tarpon Springs. The Honda hit a 2013 Blue Chrysler Town & Country van, driven by Timothy J. Hook, 53, of Amherst, NY.

Three adults and one child in the Nissan were transported to hospitals. They are all in stable condition. The driver and two children in the Honda SUV also had to go to a hospital. The passenger of the Honda, Laurie A. Foster-Peterson, of Tarpon Springs, died as a result of blunt force trauma.

The three adults in the Chrysler van reported no injuries. All those transported to hospitals are in various conditions or have been released, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
