Mary McGuire - TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)-Bolts fans will be able to "Be the Thunder" and "Beat the Hunger" this season as dozens of new concession items will be available for hungry patrons.
From decadent bread cones full of mac & cheese and bacon to poutine- that's french fries with cheese curds and gravy- food to tempt every taste bud will be ready for hungry patrons as the puck drops on a new Lightning season this Thursday night.RELATED: Unique food offerings at sports venues
"Arenas and sports venues kind of get lumped in together and people come to expect the traditional things like popcorn and peanuts. I think we do a fantastic job of raising the bar every year to have something new for fans to try out," said concessions operations manager Jennifer Freeman.
Just like the players on the ice, crews have been working hard in the kitchen throughout the off-season, crafting some of the most indulgent items fans can think of, like hamburger sliders, freshly sliced Rueben sandwiches and tater tots.
"Comfort food. If I go to a game, it's comfort food. Something nice and heavy, solid. I am not going to go to a game and order a salad or a bowl of soup," said chef John Dougherty, who invented the delicious mac & cheese cone creation.
If you do want a salad, however, the stadium will have some healthy options, like fresh greens with fruit and grilled chicken.
Amalie Arena will also feature a vast array of desserts for those looking to satisfy their sweet tooth.
"We do anything from mini cheesecakes to fruit tarts, we do our own chocolate bon bons in house," said pastry chef Heather Unger.
The Tampa Bay Lightning staff are also renovating seven of their current concession stands at Amalie Arena, so items like burgers and hot dogs will still be available for fans of classic stadium fair.
News Channel 8 will detail all of the tasty delights fans can expect at Amalie Arena this season, beginning on First at Four.
