Beer to help save coral reefs debuts in Tampa today

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - The Florida Aquarium and Coppertail Brewing Co. have teamed up to create a beer to help protect coral reefs.

“Coral Haze” is a hazy pale ale brewed with calypso hops, as well as hops grown at the Florida Aquarium.

The beer is a limited-edition release and will be available on draft while supplies last, beginning May 11.

A launch party for the new brew will be held at Coppertail Brewing Co. today at 4 p.m.

The beer will also be available at the aquarium’s Fins Cantina on May 12.

Coppertail is donating $1 for every pint sold to the aquarium to help with its critical conservation efforts.

The Florida Aquarium works to reproduce staghorn coral to help create more resilient coral reefs.

The aquarium is studying coral at their Center for Conservation in Apollo Beach, where staghorn and pillar coral, as well as long-spined urchins, are grown.

Coral Haze is one of three planned brews, with two coming later in the year.
