Lake County doctor accused of snapping photos up women's skirts

WESH Orlando - LAKE COUNTY, FL (WESH) - A local doctor is accused of snapping photos up the skirts of female shoppers.

Police said Akram Ismail, 57, was going aisle by aisle in a Groveland Publix using his cellphone to get lewd shots of several women. The doctor has faced criminal charges before, officials said.

Groveland Police arrested Ismail Thursday afternoon and charged him with video voyeurism for allegedly taking photos under a woman's skirt. He was taken into custody at a Publix in the Eagle Ridge Shopping Center in Groveland.

A customer alerted the store manager and said she watched the defendant "photograph or video under a woman's skirt."

"I just feel it's something he shouldn't be doing, it's violating women, it's not right at all," one shopper told WESH 2 News.

The manager told police he saw the same thing. Police said Ismail got "very nervous and shaky" and said, 'Well, I have an issue,'" when they questioned him about the incident. Police asked to see the doctor's phone and he obliged. He also unlocked it.

The officer scrolled through the cellphone and noticed some video. According to police, a female's buttocks appeared in the video. Police arrested Ismail and took the phone as evidence. Two years ago, Ismail served six years in prison for parole violation for forcibly resisting an Air Marshal aboard an Orlando-bound plane. This incident involved  a murder-for-hire investigation in which Ismail was accused of trying to kill a former business associate.

Ismail's next court date is August 10.
