CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) - A new military communications satellite was launched into space last night at Cape Canaveral. The satellite was the fifth Wideband Global satcom spacecraft to be launched. It will serve the U.S. military with the highest capacity communications currently available.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A circuit judge has rejected a request to exhume human remains on the site of a now-defunct Panhandle reform school. Judge William Wright ruled yesterday against the request by Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Unmarked graves are believed to be on the school site.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for leaving the scene after a fatal drunken driving crash. Hank Tippins was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. One woman in another car was killed in the crash.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) - Officials say a boy was shot in the leg at a South Florida middle school after another child's gun fired by accident. Miami-Dade Schools Police say it happened yesterday at Redland Middle School in Homestead. Initial reports indicate that an 11-year-old boy brought a gun to school in his backpack, and the gun accidentally discharged inside the bag.
